GEORGE DURAN FOOD NETWORK’S "HAM ON THE STREET" TO RECEIVE HIS "READ" POSTER FROM THE NORWALK PUBLIC LIBRARY NORWALK, Conn., November 29, 2006 – In a modest ceremony, the Norwalk Public Library will present another in the series of "Read" posters to George Duran – creator and host of Food Network’s popular cooking show "Ham on the Street" at the Main Library, 1 Belden Avenue, Norwalk, at 2:15 p.m. Duran, whose weekly programs have been set in various local locations including the Norwalk Oyster Festival, and City Hall has, most recently presented Ham on Turkey on Cablevision’s FoodTV channel 29 last Monday evening. The Norwalk Public Library initial "Read" Poster featured Mayor Richard A. Moccia -- was created by the Library Board of Directors to promote the joy and rewards of reading and the advantages that the Library has to offer. "The ‘READ’ Poster Campaign features photos and quotations from local students, educators, authors, officials, and other celebrities," explains Stan Siegel, Board Secretary, "whose words and pictures are meant to encourage reading throughout our community." In his poster, Duran is quoted as saying: "Books contain the ‘recipes of learning’ – make them a part of your everyday life." A communication studies major at New York University, Duran moved from working as an on-air personality at WPLJ-FM to WABC radio in New York, and then to working in production on the popular MTV show "House of Style." In 2002, Duran moved to Paris to pursue his other interest – food. He attended culinary schools at Ecole Supériere de Cuisine Française, and Groupe Ferrandi. While there he hosted Pop Cuisine on France’s Cuisine TV. In addition to presenting Duran with his own poster, the Library will put a copy on permanent display adjacent to the Circulation Desk which will become part of the "Read" Poster gallery. Additional large, 24"x36" copies will be distributed to various other City locations for display. Souvenir copies of the original poster will be made available to the public in attendance at the ceremony and, time permitting, will be autographed by Duran. ### EDITORS NOTE: Also, as time permits, photographs and personal interviews will be available to the media. A pre-publication copy of the Duran "Read" Poster is attached. |
